Philosophy
Nyumba
Ya Thanzi – The House of Good Health – is a UK based trust working in Malawi to support local development initiatives designed and implemented by Malawians.
It is our philosophy that local people are in the best position to know what their problems are and how to find solutions.
We work with people who are committed to improving the lives of people in their community but lack the resources to put their plans into action.
We do not believe in telling people what to do or how to do it. When we visit our partners in Malawi we learn from them about their culture and community and why they run their project the way they do.
The projects we support are designed and run by local people who have a real understanding of what works in their communities. By working this way we support effective grass-roots projects that give people the opportunity to try out their own ideas.
We
travel to Malawi a approximately yearly to visit projects and seek out new individuals to work with.
We spend our time in cities and villages, talking to people,
making friends, dicussing life in Malawi and listening to peoples
thoughts and ideas. We tell people about Nyumba Ya Thanzi and what
we have to offer. There are no administration costs for the trust,
all the work done by the trustees is voluntary and we will pay our
own travel expenses. This means that every penny donated to the
Nyumba Ya Thanzi trust will go directly to its beneficiaries in
Malawi. |
